Consistent Exams and Cleanings

Dear Patients,

As we wait for winter's last blast, the thoughts of warm weather ease my winter doldrums.

In my years of practicing I have been privileged to have treated many thousands of patients. Our office has over 3,000 current patients of record. Many of these patients are diligent and have routine and consistent exams and cleanings. Much of the dentistry performed on these patients is minor restorative appointments (i.e. fillings, crowns, and minor surgical procedures).

They avoid large expenses by maintenance of continued care. There are, however, a certain subset of our patient population that we only see for catastrophic events (i.e. large abscesses necessitating root canals, extractions, or teeth broken to the gumline). I cannot impress on these patients how preventable these catastrophic events can be by simply being more diligent about routine exams and cleanings. The ADA recommends routine exams and cleanings be performed at least every 6 months. My hygiene staff is highly trained in prophylaxis (cleaning) but equally skilled in educating patients on their homecare. Many patients need to be educated as to the proper brushing technique as well as areas to pay particular attention to. They can show many new adjuncts or new devices that can help our patients maintain a high level of dental hygiene. This combined with proper nutrition can make most dental procedures completely unnecessary. I feel privileged to work in a profession that truly wants to eliminate its own existence.

Should you or someone you love be in need of a routine exam and cleaning please contact our office for an appointment.
